Here at Far and Ride we have just added three spectacular new rides in Wales, Costa Rica and the USA. These destinations offer wonderful riding opportunities amidst some of the world’s most beautiful and varied scenery and on some of the best trained horses.
Brecon Beacons and Beyond, Wales
World class trail riding over the Brecon Beacons and beyond. These riding holidays are set in some of the most beautiful and undiscovered parts of Wales and fit, fine and sure-footed Welsh Cobs are the perfect mounts. Run by the Turner family with over 40 years experience, this is trail riding not to be forgotten.
These cobs defy the usual ‘ploddy’ reputation and are forward-going and more than happy to give you a thrilling gallop through the lush Welsh countryside. Many are homebred and broken, therefore ensuring that they have been raised with trail riding in mind and are ideally suited to the terrain. Wales has some of the greatest landscapes in the UK ranging from the mountains and hills to the stretches of clear coastline. There are trails here to suit a variety of riders – the adventurous kind can try the Trans Wales Trail which takes you across the length and breadth of the country or there are less challenging and based options for others. This is a friendly and relaxed destination with pub stops, tasty food and new friends waiting to meet you.

Green Mountain Trails, Costa Rica
This is the perfect way to see the real Costa Rica and to enjoy riding a well loved horse through a variety of landscapes. Costa Rican culture is steeped in riding tradition so why not get involved and experience the bio-diversity of this beautiful country? The tours are an excellent opportunity for bird spotting and to see the wildlife and terrain from cloud forests to volcanoes.
People are often dubious when it comes to riding in Costa Rica due to concerns over horse welfare. This destination is run by an English lady, Janet, and her Costa Rican partner, Marvin, and their horses are outstandingly well cared for. Janet and Marvin wish to set an example for other horse owners in the area and vet records can be provided for each and every one of their horses. All are vaccinated and fed a varied diet, including bananas for treats, and are worked on a rotation schedule to ensure plenty of time off. These horses are perfectly suited to riding these mountain trails – they are sure-footed, sturdy and safe. This is not luxury riding, nor is it fast, but it is the best way to experience Costa Rica and to take advantage of the wonderful sights it holds.

Bitterroot Ranch (Wyoming), USA
A Wyoming ranch with some of the best and most diverse horse riding in North America. Located in a remote valley, this ranch offers tuition with certified instructors, a cross country course, team sorting, herding cows, cattle drives, roundups, pack trips and trail rides. Excellent cuisine and outstanding fishing opportunities, along with their Arabian horse breeding programme, make this an exceptional ranch to visit.
This ranch is family owned and run and offers riding with both Western and English tack. Riders of all levels can trail ride the breathtaking Wyoming ranges and can get involved in traditional cowboy jobs such as herding the cattle or can head out on a memorable pack trip in the wilderness. Experienced riders can enjoy the cross country course or can take advantage of video taped lessons which are on offer to guests twice a week and are a great way to improve your riding. Food is also a great pleasure here and much of it is ranch produced – there’s nothing better than a day of riding followed by organic home-reared natural beef fillet with rosemary and garlic roast potatoes, fresh vegetables and a red wine jus. The perfect end to a perfect day!
