Ride Description

The Montana ranch is a working guest ranch located in the "heart of the west". It is based along the Yellowstone river and shadowed by the Beartooth mountain range. Rides explore both the the wide open planes and the pine forests. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned rider you will find a horse to suit your horse riding level. You can choose to ride in the morning, afternoon or set off for full day outings.

The Montana Ranch has been raising cattle, horses, alfalfa, corn and malt barley as a family tradition for three generations. You will be invited to get a true taste of ranch life, from wrangling horses to branding, doctoring and moving cattle, putting out salt blocks or feeding the horses with the help of both family and ranch staff.

It's not all hard work and you will have the opportunity to spend the days learning about horses, fishing, hiking, exploring nature, visiting nearby towns or just soaking up the peace and quiet in the natural surroundings whilst relaxing your muscles in the ranch hot tub.

Food & Accommodation

The ranch offers a range of accommodation to meet the needs of the guests. Each room is en suite with air conditioning, wi-fi, satellite TV and fantastic river or mountain views.

The comfortable bedrooms range from singles, doubles, bunk beds, family suites, and have all been named appropriately (e.g. Hold Yer Horses, Yellowstone suite, Bear Paw). Just let us know your needs and we will make sure they are all catered for. There is wheel chair accessibility.

All meals are home cooked, hearty, healthy dishes served in a relaxed family atmosphere in the ranch house. Each day starts with fresh hot coffee and tea served on the deck followed by a hearty ranch breakfast. Lunch and dinner feature Montana favorites such as roast beef, fresh vegetables and home made baked treats. In the evening before supper, there is a gathering on the deck for a cool drink, a glass of wine or a nice cold beer. Once a week an evening ride is planned to the old Homestead Cabin for a barbecue.

Activities

There is a variety of activities on offer at the ranch if you choose to take some time off horse riding. Once a week the ranch organises a trip to the nearby western town of Cody. There will be time to go shopping, visit the Buffalo Museum and soak up the atmosphere at the Cody Rodeo.

Fishing enthusiasts can step out of the ranch and cast a line in the Clarks Fork for a trophy trout, or explore the local brooks just a short walk from the ranch.

Hikers will enjoy exploring the mountain range surrounding the ranch or taking a day trip to Yellowstone national park.

Each season brings a variety of wildlife to enjoy during your stay at the ranch. Bird enthusiasts will be spoilt in the summer with meadowlarks, sand hill cranes, blue herons and pelicans. Autumn is a time to spot wild turkey, pheasants or geese and during winter you will get used to the sight of bald eagles sitting on the tree tops. The Ranch also offers the opportunity to view white tail, mulies, fox, coyote with an occasional visit from a bear, mountain lion, moose or elk.

After a long days horse-riding, hiking, fishing or trip to the rodeo you can soak your muscles under the stars in the ranch hot tub.
