Estancia Corrientes, Argentina

Reviews

We had an absolutely fantastic time at the Estancia. Alicia and Fernando are marvellous hosts and we cannot speak highly enough of them and the effort they put into ensuring we were able to do all that we wanted. Thank you for all your help in organising our stay.

Sally W.
One of the first things Fernando said when we arrived is that he wanted us to feel at home at the Estancia...and we did! Although that is not so difficult with such a lovely, welcoming family! Within a day we felt part of the family, including the gauchos. We could do everything we wanted to do, which was mainly: work on the estancia with the cows and the horses alongside the family and the gauchos. They even gave us the idea we really were a help. We loved the taste of the traditional gaucho-life (and Marola's practical jokes) and we loved the fast rides on the wonderful horses (thank you Patricia, Guapa, La Negra, Raton, Mercedita, Calla and all the other ones!). Even Peggy's argument with a cow did not stop us from having a absolutely great time. Thank you so much Fernando, Willy, Alicia, Daniel, Lydia, Marola, Cico, Lito, Gomez, Maria. You're in our hearts.

Catherine and Peggy
It was my favourite part of my whole trip away. It was a wonderful combination of very relaxing and high activity, I felt very well looked after and cared for. Great riding, great company, a real mixture of things to do - loved it!

Ride Description

This welcoming estancia is the ideal base for a horse riding holiday in Argentina. Your hosts are passionate about both their country and their horses and the overwhelming feeling from guests is that they are made to feel like part of the family. The Argentine countryside gives way to wonderful riding opportunities and you are welcome to explore the scenery on horseback, work the cattle, try your hand at polo and to live the life of these true countrymen.

The estancia has horses and trails suitable for everyone, including the complete beginner, and the horses are always ready and available for guests to use. The horses here are considered the estancia's most important working tool and you can accompany the gauchos whilst they herd cows and horses or during their work in the corral. Rides can be from thirty minutes to a whole day or you can try riding between haciendas over several days for a real adventure. Stays here are custom made to suit your needs and you will not feel like a tourist… you will live the true experiences of this Argentinian family where there is a strong sense of tradition and an appreciation of the way of life.

Suggested activities for guests do not only include horse riding and cattle work but also milking the cows, bird watching, cookery lessons, excursions, moonlight rides, festival visits, fishing in the lagoon, polo tuition, cart rides, photo safaris, swimming in the pool, casino nights and massages. The estancia itself offers simple accommodation but is designed in typical Corrientes style to give warmth and comfort to its guests. The service and meals are exceptional, complemented by the white glove waiters and silverware which adds the luxurious touch. Quality Argentine wines accompany your meals. This special destination has only seven guest rooms and thus each visitor's stay is afforded exceptional attention to detail and the consideration of this delightful family.

See Programmes.

Food & Accommodation

The estancia is typically Corrientes in style with a low roof and wide terrace and is set in 2500 hectares and surrounded by eight hectares of gardens. The accommodation has been refurbished to a high but simple standard to provide comfort and hospitality for the guests.

To ensure that you get personal attention there are only seven rooms available, all with private bathrooms. There are two living rooms, one with a satellite TV. There is a swimming pool with solarium and a patio.

During the Estancia to Estancia trips you will stay in a variety of authentic Estancias:

"Estancia La Amistad" - offers a colonial style and is probably the most modern one on offer. A place where you can receive relaxing massages and great meals.

"Estancia Buena Vista" - A splendid colonial style house of the late XIX century. It offers premium comfortable accommodation to host you in superb suites with everything needed to enjoy the upper most comfort. It is located in one of the highest slopes of the area. You will enjoy a great service and comfortable rooms with wonderful view.

"Estancia La Teresita" - This is an old cattle ranch set in Malvina Norte, 70 kms away from Esquina. After its main house burnt down and only a few antique pieces of furniture were saved, other facilities were recycled to form the new countryside house. It offers large rooms and the perfect mixture between rustic and new style.

The estancia has a reputation for high class gastronomy consisting of exquisite dishes served by white gloved waiters and perfectly accompanied by excellent Argentinian wines. Included in your package are wines, beers and non alcoholic beverages. There is a 24 hour coffee service.

Menus include a first course, main course and dessert. International, Creole and regional cooked meals are prepared with fresh local ingredients resulting in first class cuisine. Your dinner may be served in the moonlight or by candlelight.

A drink before meals is accompanied with local appetisers and exquisite Corrientes 'chipa' (special cheese bread) which will prepare you for the sumptuous culinary experience which follows. Special menus are available for those with specific dietary requirements.

Activities

On the 2500 hectares there is much ranch activity and cattle work including branding, vaccinations and herding the cows and horses. You can also experience riding in moonlight and take some lessons in polo.

There is a swimming pool and solarium to enjoy. Your hosts can arrange cooking lessons, casino nights, visits to horse races, carnivals and regional festivals. You can also have a massage. There is much wildlife in this area and birdwatching here is quite an experience. The fishing here is superb. Other activities include canoeing on the lake and sightseeing by boat. There are Jesuit ruins and the Iguazu Falls to visit.

Get inside the core of the Mesopotamia, “IBERA MARSHES”, to discover on horseback and in boats one of the largest marshes of the world, enjoying the diversity of flora and fauna in their natural habitat. Finally, you will get to the other side of Misiones to reach a unique place in the world, IGUAÇU FALLS.

A great place for fishing due to it's ideal geographical location as it is carried out in the three great rivers: Corrientes, Paraná and Guyquiraró Rivers. Fishing begins with the sunrise. A typical day starts with a good breakfast before going to the pier, where you will go looking for the precious dorado. You sail with experts who know the river perfectly well. At noon, you stop
for a relaxing break and will enjoy a good barbecue or maybe, if you were lucky in the morning, some fried fish. Lunch is on an island, where you will enjoy the great flora and fauna of the area. At the end of the day you can relax and discuss the good days fishing.

Los Troperos al Galope: Estancia to Estancia

This ride was designed for those who believe that horseback and comfort can come together in natural and beautiful scenery. This trail is aptly named after the Argentinian countrymen or "tropero" who, many years ago, herded cattle along the paths which stretch for many miles through Corrientes. At this time the horse was Argentina's most important working tool. The estancias encountered along the way provided the tropero with accommodation and a hearty meal. This trail allows you to follow the paths of the Tropero, cover the same diverse landscape and view the same breathtaking scenery with the welcome addition of luxury comforts and sumptuous cuisine.

This trail leads you through the most diverse of landscapes including lagoons, forests, pampas, marshes, rivers and dunes. In addition to this Corrientes offers an array of flora and fauna, the attentive observer will see nandues, capybaras, foxes, rabbits, alligators and a great variety of birds.
