Ride Description

These riding holidays are set in the beautiful French area of Armagnac. Your host, Evelien, is a trained horse riding guide who speaks fluent Dutch, French and excellent English. Her stables of well-trained horses offer the ideal means by which to explore the stunning countryside. You are based at this stunning Chateau. From here you can explore this glorious countryside and return to the comforts of this magnificent Chateau.

The Armagnac region is primarily known for its production of the oldest French brandy but it is also an area rich in historical significance and charming countryside. The 'Counts of Armagnac' were politically very strong during the 14th and 15th centuries, the height of the region's power, and it was during this time that the Armagnac brandy became a commercialised product and sold throughout the country. As part of Gascony the region enjoys a wonderful climate and is mainly agricultural with fields of crops, rolling hills and a variety of rivers. The historical bastide towns and villages which dot the area take you back to times gone by and riders will see some fascinating architecture during their holiday.

Food & Accommodation

During the Château Ride, guests are accommodated in this welcoming and impressive château which offers twenty charming rooms, all en suite. The en suites are equipped with bath or shower and toilet and every bedroom has a TV and phone. Château guests are also welcome to use the swimming pool (during summer), the tennis courts, petanque piste and mini golf course. There is also a billiards room and lounge to be used at guests' leisure.

The surroundings are peaceful and the area has a fantastic climate. This is a taste of the real France!

Château Ride: Whilst staying at the château you will be on a half board basis (breakfast and dinner). Meals are made with fresh, regional produce and are primarily in the French style but with influences from across the world. Wines are not included in the cost but we recommend that you try some of delicious Gascony wines available, as well as the best Armagnac of course!

The château is happy to provide you with picnic lunches if you'd like to ride all day. These cost around €10 per person.

Chateau Ride

This is a based riding holiday with accommodation at a charming French  château. From this wonderful base you will ride out every day and choose whether to take a short ride or perhaps a full day with a picnic provided by the château. You are able to be totally flexible and decide each day where you wish to explore.

The Armagnac hospitality and countryside makes this a wonderful, relaxing holiday destination and a great place to explore on horseback. Here you are in control of your own timetable!

The six night holiday runs from Sunday to Saturday and has five days of riding. On Monday you will head to Evelien's stables and will ride your horses from there to the château (at least three hours but can be longer). Evelien will check that you are totally happy to take care of your horse. During the rest of the week the horses stay in a paddock at the château enabling riders to ride everyday for as long as they wish. Then on Friday you will ride the horses back to their stables.

The first ride is with Evelien but after that you are free to ride on your own. You must be at least two riders with experience of caring for horses. You should also be able to read maps and preferably speak a little French. The château can provide picnic lunches if you want to ride the whole day.

If you don't have a car then Evelien will collect you from the château on Monday to drive you to the stables and can give you a lift back on Friday too.
