Set in the South-East of Kenya, these riding holidays are luxurious and breathtaking. Twinned with Ol Donyo Lodge, set between Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks, Ride Kenya offers fantastic mobile safaris with luxury tented camps and fabulous game viewing, as well as based stays in the sumptuous lodge. Ol Donyo Lodge looks out towards Mount Kilimanjaro and the open savannahs which make Kenya so special.
This destination offers a choice of two outstanding safaris - the Chyulu Hills ride or the Amboseli. The landscapes here provide excellent footing for the horses, making the safaris exciting from a riding point of view as well as for wildlife viewing. Guests often start with one and return to try the other, each one having its own highlights. The Chyulu Hills Safari offers adventurous riding yet is not quite so demanding as the Amboseli ride. You are guaranteed to encounter exciting game, such as giraffe, cheetah and elephant, but there are fewer encounters with large quantities of game and predators, making it a little more relaxed for those who want to see the wildlife without being faced with a large and potentially daunting amount. On the other hand, the Amboseli Safari is more pacey with generally longer days in the saddle. During this programme you are more likely to encounter game such as lion and hyena, the trip is therefore the perfect adventure for the seasoned rider looking for excitement and offers opportunities to gallop and jump.
For guests who prefer a based holiday, Ol Donya Lodge is a luxurious spot where guests can relax but still enjoy riding in these special surroundings. Owned by the local Maasai people and protected by the Maasailand Preservation Trust (MPT), the area surrounding the lodge is full of amazing wildlife - elephants wander past the lodge everyday, lion and cheetah concentrations are increasing and the black rhino population has stabilised. You can ride with up to 38 species of mammal including the big five (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo) and there is access to over 1.4 million acres of outstanding wilderness.
There is a large selection of horses, all of which are well-schooled and chosen for their ability to be the perfect ride during an exciting safari. Schooled in both flatwork and jumping, they are well-matched to the needs of the guests and are safe but responsive mounts. The ecology and landscape here offer variety and diversity with each area as beautiful as the next. The going is great for the horses all year round with sandy ground surface - excellent for long canters and faster riding. With Mount Kilimanjaro as an unbeatable backdrop, the guides will often take you through the wide open plains, game rich swamps, beautiful acacia woodlands and scenic hills. The climate is ideal for this type of holiday with warm sunny days and cool evenings.
Not only are you gifted with luxurious accommodation (both at the lodge and during the safaris), excellent horses and exceptional surroundings but you are also accompanied by highly experienced and charismatic guides. Nicola and Patrick are enthusiastic about the area, the wildlife and the horses and will offer you personal attention, friendly companionship and an unforgettable experience. In addition, the area of operation is highly exclusive and you will not have to share it with other tourists or see other lodges or vehicles. This is a real Kenyan getaway!

The Lodge:
Accommodation during the based stay is in the stunning Ol Donyo Wuas Lodge, set in the heart of 270,000 acres of wild Africa and teeming with wildlife. This luxury lodge, in the Amboseli-Tsavo ecosystem of south-east Kenya, is located on the Maasai-owned Mbirikani Group Ranch, on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills. The lodge was rebuilt and refurbished in 2008, and offers breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, whilst the bedrooms are spacious and luxurious, and also comfortable and homely.
The lodge features ten magnificent guest suites in six stand-alone 'cottages'. Some of these suites are two bedded whilst others are four bedded private bush homes with their own lounges and swimming pools. Each separate cottage has been designed with versatility in mind - the four bed lodges are great for families or groups of friends whereas the smaller ones are fabulous for independent couples looking for some privacy.
Each suite is truly opulent whilst maintaining the atmosphere of a true bush lodge. All but two have their own private pools and some are even complete with private vehicle, guide and chef. All the bedrooms at Ol Donyo Wuas have "star beds" which are on the rooftop and allow guests to sleep safely and comfortable out beneath the beautiful stars. This area also makes for the perfect sundowner, or private dinner, and offers dramatic views over the plains and onto Mount Kilimanjaro.
All individual cottages have en suite bathrooms with a view, including indoor and outdoor showers and a romantic bath. There is also an in room massage service at an extra cost, perfect for relaxing after a day in the saddle.
Excitingly, they have started seeing some elephants here that disappeared during the drought last year. Estimates now are about forty elephant living close by and recently they rode will one old bull they hadn't encountered in the area for six years. Herds of female elephants have been bringing their youngsters to the waterhole for the first time this year. There is also a new resident cheetah near the stables - a beautiful female with six cubs which are regularly being seen by guests. The three brother cheetahs are also in residence.
The Mobile Safaris:
During the mobile safaris guests stay in luxury tented camps which are extremely comfortable. These offer wrought iron twin or double beds, fine linen, private en suite bathrooms, a central dining tent with a high standard of food and drink. The mobile safaris are well-supported by an experienced staff of grooms, chefs, waiters and helpers.
Food is delicious and of a high standard with meals accompanied by an extensive wine list. Al fresco lunches on the veranda, candlelit dinners by your private cottage and picnics out on the plains are all included. Both the lodge and the safaris offer excellent standards of food, with a great variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as meat and fish. Fresh bread, cakes, and biscuits are made daily, and all dietary needs and special children’s meals can be catered for, with advanced notice please.
There are many other activities at Ol Donyo Wuas Lodge and something to suit everyone. For those who are tired of being in the saddle but want to see more wildlife, there is the option of heading out on a game drive (day or night). Guests may also hike or mountain bike (accompanied by an armed guide) across the savannahs and around the area. Hiking into the mist forests is an exceptional way to appreciate the large variety of habitats surrounding the lodge. Foot safaris and wildlife tracking with Maasai trackers and the two resident bloodhounds are not to be missed.
One of the greatest activities available at the lodge (other than horse riding of course!) is to spend time at the 'log jam' hide. This is an open-air viewing facility located just below the lodge and consists of a mass of heavy logs stacked so as to create a square enclosure. This acts as a great area from which guests can safely and quietly view animals at exceptionally close range as they visit the waterhole. You can spend as long as here as you like, depending on your interests.
Adventurous guests may enjoy a night under canvas by fly camping. Campsites are chosen according to season and guests experience traditional camp amenities including drinks by the fire and delicious campfire cuisine. You can choose to travel to the fly camp by foot, vehicle or on horseback and a famous overnight spot is Seduction Rock (apparently it always works!). For fly camping you must pre-book.
As if that's not enough there are also day trips to Amboseli National Park, trips to local Maasai villages (an excellent insight into Maasai culture) and primary schools, clay pigeon shooting, bush survival courses for kids and the chance to sleep in 'star beds' on the rooftops to view the stunning night sky.
Anyone taking part in a mobile safari also gets to enjoy bush walks, hill hiking, day and night game drives and of course amazing horse riding. The itineraries are designed to be flexible allowing guests to pick and choose what they will enjoy the most.

Positioned in the remote Chyulu Hills of Southern Kenya, away from the heat and malaria, is the beautiful Ol Donyo Lodge. After 21 years of running their lodge and riding operation, the hosts decided to rebuild the main lodge and the surrounding individual cottages and these were reopened in 2008. The lodge and family are forming a new model for sustainable conservation to ensure the protection of the area's wildlife. They use an innovative sharing-of-benefits scheme with the local community to do this and do important work in creating conservancies. They have already greatly improved the populations of elephant, lion, cheetah and black rhino. There are a variety of activities available here and riding is on the agenda everyday (for those wishing to partake). This programme is therefore a wonderful option for those who would like to enjoy the superb horses and riding whilst having the added benefits of staying in a luxury safari lodge. Riding can be enjoyed early in the morning or at sunset and these rides usually last for about two to four hours (however different needs can be catered for). This is a great option for any kind of rider as all needs can be catered for. It's also a lovely opportunity for families or groups of different abilities to enjoy a ride out together, looking up to Mount Kilimanjaro and across the vast savannahs, rich with the magnificent African wildlife. |

As the destination's signature ride, the Chyulu Hills Safari has always been popular and for good reason. It provides exceptional scenery and wildlife whilst also offering ideal going for the horses. It's a wonderful option for families, small groups or individuals and those who want the great sightings involved with a safari in this outstanding part of Africa but at a more relaxed pace. With no other tourists in the area, this is a great place for fans of Africa to explore a rare treat: exclusive wilderness and its wildlife. It is a less intense programme for those riders worried about encountering big game in high concentrations, and rewarding for those riders who appreciate the rewards of looking for truly wild animals. During this safari you can expect to see wonderful wildlife such as giraffe, elephant and cheetah (not to mention a host of others), but without encountering large numbers of more dangerous game which can be daunting for some. On average there is 4 - 7 hours (usually 15 - 30 miles) spent in the saddle each day with guests being offered bush walks and game drives (day and night) in the rest of the time. Guests should be fit, adventurous and capable of a good canter at minimum. This safari takes you through and around the area of the Chyulu Hills (which runs for about 40 miles) and is a wonderfully varied and memorable Kenyan safari experience. Arrival into Nairobi - Take any daytime flight from London Heathrow or another European city to Nairobi (JKIA). Guests should aim to spend their first night in Nairobi to rest. Day 1: Arrival, Introductory Game Drive and Horse Ride Fly into Ol Donyo Lodge airstrip, and be met by a Ride Kenya guide. Enjoy a short game drive, en route to the first campsite which is nestled in thick Acacia woodland. The Chyulu Hills offer some of the most stunning scenery in Africa; rolling volcanic hills, Acacia forests, and grassy plains all under the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. This first drive serves as an introduction to the area and its inhabitants; there are 38 recorded species of large mammal here and over 300 species of bird. Arrive in camp and be shown to your tent. Orientation around camp, have a cool drink, and before lunch meet the rest of the staff who will accompany you throughout the safari. After a post-lunch rest, drive to Ride Kenya’s main stables (30 minutes’drive) to meet the horses. The Chyulu safari starts close to Ride Kenya’s stables, so that riders can be matched with a horse and then assessed as a group in the fenced arena, before heading out into the bush. Anyone who is not comfortable with their horse has a chance to switch at the stables. This first ride sets off from the stables, and is designed to introduce the rider to their horse and the local ecosystem. The ride will pass through thick Acacia forest, and out onto the savannah. Expect to ride at a variety of speeds and to see game such as giraffe, impala, elephant, warthog and gazelle. Arrive into camp at dusk. Enjoy a drink by the fire, a hot shower and a three-course dinner. As the sun goes down, listen to the jackal and hyena calling to commence their nocturnal hunts. Day 2: Bush Breakfast Ride and Afternoon Walk Depart at dawn on horseback for a morning exploration of the woodland and savannah around camp. The woodland is thick with umbrella-shaped Acacia tortilis, where giraffe browse and antelope abound. Enjoy the dawn chorus as the horses set off into the first light of the day. The footing is ideal for horse riding; coarse volcanic soil that is firm yet forgiving under hoof. This morning’s ride is a chance to enjoy the horses’schooling and fitness; long trots and canters can be supplemented with some cross-country style jumping over fallen trees and other fences, for those who wish. As the land here is owned by nomadic Maasai people, there are often villages to ride past. The traditional Maasai culture is fascinating to see first-hand. Emerge from the woodland, and traverse the wide open Mbirikani plains, dotted with wildlife. The plains stretch for 70 miles before Mt. Kilimanjaro rises up from them on the distant horizon. Enjoy a full English breakfast under the shade of an Acacia tree before riding back to camp. Late lunch in camp is followed by a few hours’ rest in the heat of the day. An evening walk is offered, to stretch out riding muscles, and to learn more about the local flora and fauna. There is even a chance to track and locate some of the area’s resident bull elephants; several of which are known to be the largest ‘tuskers’ left in Africa today. Day 3: Game-drive to Amboseli National Park and Afternoon Horse Ride Depart by road before dawn to enjoy a half-day game drive in Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is home to around 1,500 elephant which live in and around the swamps beneath Mt Kilimanjaro. As well as the famous elephant, there are plenty of hippo, buffalo, plains game, predators and birds to enjoy viewing. This is a world-famous ecosystem and the photographic opportunities are endless. Return to camp for a late lunch. Enjoy a horse ride in the afternoon, ending up in a scenic spot for sunset and drinks. Day 4: Morning ride to Crater Camp and Afternoon Hike Leave camp early on horseback and proceed through the Acacia woodland up towards Chyulu East National Park. Taking a packed breakfast in the saddle-bags allows the ride to be flexible and to enjoy wandering with the game on its daily movements. Coming across wildlife on horseback is thrilling; from small sightings like flocks of guinea-fowl, pairs of dik-dik or packs of jackal, to the huge bulk of a herd of eland, oryx or elephant. The ride soon leaves the thick Acacia woodland and begins to pass through seemingly endless stands of whistling thorn Acacia on the ascent up into the Chyulu Hills. This is a good ecosystem for seeing cheetah, gerenuk, zebra, wildebeest and Coke’s hartebeest. This morning is a long and fast ride, with plenty of chance to canter, gallop and jump. Over the course of the morning, the ride ascends about 2,000 feet above the plains with stunning views stretching for 90 miles on a clear day. Arrive into Crater camp for a late lunch. This camp is nestled into a forest next to a large volcanic crater. It is situated over looking the quintessential East African plains that lead up to Mt. Kilimanjaro. Late afternoon, climb the volcanic crater in pursuit of the very rare Verreaux’s Eagle which nests in the nearly inaccessible rocky outcrops at the rim. Or, explore the lava tubes under the crater which lie within walking distance of the camp. These jagged caves stretch for miles as they lead away from the crater and have been used for generations of hunter-gatherers as shelter. Enjoy sunset in this most spectacular campsite. Day 5: Full-Day Ride to the Mist Forest Depart after breakfast in camp. Today’s ride ascends another 2,000 feet higher into the Chyulu Hills. A noticeable change in climate and temperature occurs as you reach over 7,000 feet above sea level. The ride is dominated by incredible vistas of the vast wilderness of Tsavo East National Park to the east, and Mount Kilimanjaro and Amboseli National Park to the west. Today’s riding traverses steep slopes and valleys and leading the horses may be necessary at times. Due to the altitude of the area, clouds often sit on the top of the Chyulu Hills. This consistent moisture has created pockets of mist forest that dot the summits of the hills. Enjoy a picnic lunch just outside one of the largest mist forests, and then enter the mist forest on foot, in pursuit of buffalo, leopard, Syke’s monkey and bush pig that reside within. Get back on the horses and enjoy the dramatic descent out of the hills, passing a few subsistence farmers’ villages en route. Most of the farmers are Kamba people, who seek a living by maize farming on the hillside. Rural school children are likely to spot the horses and follow them for a while, giggling and running along beside. Arrive in the late afternoon to Olekuto Camp. Enjoy a well-earned drink and rest in stunning scenery. Day 6: Full-Day Ride, with a Barbecue Lunch After breakfast in camp, depart on horseback to explore the woodland of Olekutu. This area is extremely beautiful and remote, with herds of giraffe, gazelle, zebra and wildebeest. Enjoy seeing ostrich and Kori bustard bathing in the red dust. Leaving Olekuto, the ride passes by the Inchalai swamps. These are swamps where breeding herds of elephant come to drink at night and if riders are lucky they might catch the elephant returning to the thick lava flow in which they seek refuge during the day. Maasai herdsmen and women also bring their livestock for water in the swamps. Enjoy a scenic spot for a barbecue lunch, atop some beautiful rocky outcrops. Ride across the vast savannah after lunch and into camp. Day 7: Departure Enjoy breakfast in camp, followed by departure by road, to the Ol Donyo Lodge airstrip. Scheduled flight to Nairobi departs at 08:15. |

Riders for this trip should be experienced and adventurous, able to travel at a fast pace and control their horse whilst admiring the wildlife. Day 1: Arrival, Introductory Game Drive and Horse Ride Fly into Amboseli National Park, and be met by a Ride Kenya guide at the airstrip. Enjoy a wonderful morning game drive, en route to the first campsite on the south-west boundary of the Park. Amboseli is home to around 1,500 elephant which live in and around the swamps beneath Mt Kilimanjaro. This first game drive serves as an introduction to the Park, and its inhabitants. As well as the famous elephant, there are plenty of hippo, buffalo, plains game, predators and birds to enjoy viewing. Arrive in camp, and be shown to your tent. Orientation around camp, have a cool drink, and then meet the horses and the staff who will accompany you throughout the safari. After a post lunch siesta, mount up for a two hour introductory ride through the yellow fever tree woodland at the base of Kilimanjaro. Today’s ride aims to get riders and horses acquainted at a gentle pace. Riders ease into their new surroundings whilst meandering through the woodlands in search of baboon, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, impala, and gazelle. Do expect some trotting and cantering on this ride. Day 2: Dawn Ride and Afternoon Bush Walk Depart at dawn on horseback for a morning exploration of the Kiturua Game Concession. Timing the ride early in the morning should enable riders to see the large herds of elephant that this area is famous for; the elephant emerge from their night time feeding areas and traverse the open plains en route to water holes on the far side of the concession. Before heading over to these water holes, the ride meanders along the edge of thick bush, in search of predators such as lion and hyena, as they make their way back to their daytime cover. Soon the scenery opens up to flat, sandy terrain which in the cool morning air is just perfect for enjoying the first long, fast canters of the safari. The pace of this ride is fast, though there are good stretches of time when horses walk amongst the wildlife. Close to the water holes, large herds of plains game can be seen as they come to drink, in the safety of the bright sunlight. The ride approaches in attempts to see elephant, and also hippo as they enter the water to protect themselves from the heat of the day. Enjoy a full English breakfast in the shade of an old Acacia tree close to the water, before returning to camp on horseback. Late lunch in camp is followed by a few hours’ rest in the heat of the day. An evening walk is offered, to stretch out riding muscles, and to learn more about the local flora and fauna, and the art of tracking. Scenic sundowners followed by a three-course dinner in camp. Day 3: Forest Ride and Afternoon Game Drive Breakfast served in camp before the morning ride. Horses and riders now acquainted, there is a chance to enjoy some jumping, as well as more interaction with game on horseback. Riding through the thick bush where the majority of the game is likely to be hiding, it is thrilling to come across a variety of wildlife; from flocks of guinea fowl, to herds of giraffe, or even jackals or hyena in the undergrowth. A common sight is the elephant again, though care is taken when riding with them in very thick cover. Lunch in camp is followed by an afternoon game drive. Kiturua is home to a great variety of wildlife. The afternoon light, combined with the animals and scenery creates a good chance to take some phenomenal photographs which may have been difficult to capture on horseback. Today’s game drive often pauses for drinks at sunset, before heading back to camp with a spotlight, aiming to find predators as they begin their nocturnal hunting. Day 4: Full Day Ride through Amboseli to Patrick’s Camp, Olgulului Ranch Depart camp early morning on horseback, with packed breakfast. Today’s ride leaves the Kiturua Concession and enters Amboseli National Park. Riding distance today is about 30 miles, much of which traverses the game dense Enkongo Narok swamp. Expect to ride with large numbers of elephant, buffalo and plains game and perhaps even predators as the safari navigates through and around the swamplands. The ride also crosses a vast dry lake bed so there are plenty of chances for galloping and also jumping some of the trees that have been pushed over by elephant. A Ride Kenya vehicle meets riders with cool drinks, cushions in the shade and a picnic lunch for riders and horses! The ride today ends on Olgulului Ranch, on the North-western boundary of Amboseli. After about seven hours riding, enjoy a hot shower and drinks in camp; an oasis of tall trees set in the midst of vast open country, with deep red soil and endless views. Day 5: Full Day Ride from Olgulului Ranch to the Chyulu Hills An early departure from camp, as the ride today is aiming for the northern end of the majestic Chyulu Hills. Similar in length to yesterday’s ride, with a picnic lunch half way. Enjoy the scenery as it changes from deep red soil, through black cotton and into volcanic basalt. Expect to see migratory herds of eland, kudu, oryx, gerenuk, hartebeest, gazelle and giraffe as they too make their way from the swamps of Amboseli to the high country of the Chyulu Hills. Enjoy meeting groups of nomadic Maasai herdsmen, and passing by their villages. Some Maasai still live a very traditional lifestyle, and experiencing their culture first-hand is fascinating. Arrive late afternoon into the new campsite. Day 6: Morning Hike Lenkiloriti and Afternoon Horse Ride Whilst the horses rest, set off on foot to climb Lenkiloriti; a massive volcano that offers stunning views of the Chyulu Hills. Take binoculars to the top and scan the forests below for the black rhino and breeding herds of elephant that reside in the area. Enjoy lunch in camp today, followed by an afternoon ride through the beautiful volcanic landscape. This area is a favorite hunting ground for a local leopard. Perhaps opt to do a night game-drive after dinner to try to locate the leopard and other nocturnal animals that inhabit the area. Day 7: Long Morning Ride to Crater Camp Depart camp on horseback and head though thick Acacia woodland towards the main base of the Chyulu Hills. The route winds through seemingly endless strands of whistling thorn acacia as it climbs into the hills. Ample opportunities to canter, gallop, and jump due to the excellent footing. The Acacia woodland is home to many species of mammal including some of the biggest ‘Tuskers’ left in Africa. Over the course of the day, the ride ascends about 2,000 feet above the plains, with stunning views stretching for 90 miles on a clear day. Arrive at Crater Camp for a late lunch. Whilst the Chyulu rhino are not fenced in, or bred in captivity, they are closely monitored by Kenya Wildlife Service and The Maasailand Preservation Trust game scouts. These are some of the last wild black rhino left in East Africa, and their survival is due in part to the thick lava flows that they fled into to avoid being hunted in the 1960's. This morning's walk will pass through dense vegetation and rocky ground, moving quietly, and following the rhino tracks and spoor in order to try and get a glimpse of one of these rare creatures. Lunch will be in camp, followed by a gentle afternoon ride. The Lenkiloriti area is a favourite hunting ground for local leopard. Perhaps opt to do a night game-drive after dinner to try to locate the leopard and other nocturnal animals that inhabit the area. Day 7: Morning ride to Crater Camp and Afternoon Hike You will leave camp early on horseback and proceed through the Acacia woodland up towards Chyulu East National Park. The ride will soon leave the thick Acacia woodland and begin to pass through seemingly endless stands of whistling thorn Acacia on the ascent up into the Chyulu Hills. This is a good ecosystem for seeing cheetah, gerenuk, zebra, wildebeest and Coke's hartebeest. The ride this morning will be long and fast, with plenty of chances to canter, gallop and jump. Over the course of the morning, the ride will ascend about 2,000 feet above the plains with stunning views stretching for 90 miles on a clear day. You will arrive into Crater camp for a late lunch. This camp is nestled into a forest next to a large volcanic crater. It is situated overlooking the quintessential East African plains that lead up to Mt. Kilimanjaro. In the late afternoon, climb the volcanic crater in pursuit of the very rare Verreaux's Eagle which nests in the nearly inaccessible rocky outcrops at the rim. Or, explore the lava tubes under the crater, which lie within walking distance of the camp. These jagged caves stretch for miles as they lead away from the crater and have been used for generations of hunter-gatherers as shelter. Enjoy sunset in this most spectacular campsite. Day 8: Full-Day Ride to the Mist Forest You will depart after breakfast in camp. Today's ride will ascend another 2,000 feet higher into the Chyulu Hills. A noticeable change in climate and temperature will occur as you reach over 7,000 feet above sea level. The ride is dominated by incredible vistas of the vast wilderness of Tsavo East National park to the east, and Mount Kilimanjaro and Amboseli National Park to the west. Today's riding will traverse steep slopes and valleys and leading the horses may be necessary at times. Due to the altitude of the area, clouds often sit on the top of the Chyulu Hills. This consistent moisture has created pockets of mist forest that dot the summits of the hills. You will enjoy a picnic lunch just outside one of the largest mist forests, and then enter the mist forest on foot, in pursuit of buffalo, leopard, Syke's monkey and bush pig that reside within. You will get back on your horse and enjoy the dramatic descent out of the hills, passing a few subsistence farmers' villages en route. Most of the farmers are Kamba people, who seek a living maize farming on the hillside. Rural school children are likely to spot the horse and follow them for a while, giggling and running along beside. You will arrive in the later afternoon to Olekuto Camp for a well-earned rest and drink in stunning scenery. Day 9: Full-Day Ride, with a Barbeque Lunch After breakfast in camp, you will depart on horseback to explore the woodland of Olekutu. This area is extremely beautiful and remote, with herds of giraffe, gazelle, zebra and wildebeest. Enjoy seeing ostrich and Kori bustard bathing in the red dust. Leaving Olekuto, the ride will pass by the Inchalai swamps. These are swamps where breeding herds of elephant come to drink at night and if you are lucky you might catch the elephant returning to the thick lava flow in which they seek refuge during the day. Maasia herdsmen and women also bring their livestock for water in the swamps. Enjoy a scenic spot for a barbeque lunch, followed by a ride across the vast savannah and into camp at Pelican camp site. Day 10: Bush Breakfast and Ride Home This morning, enjoy the chance to wake up at a relaxed time and walk across the plains ot summit one of the "El Mau" or twin hills located several kilometres from camp. From the top of El Mau, you will enjoy panoramic views of the Chyulus, Mt Kilimanjaro, the vast savannah between the volcanoes and much more of the terrain crossed on horseback in the last 10 days. Walking efforts will be rewarded with sumptuous bush breakfast at the base of the hills. After breakfast, enjoy a game drive before heading back to camp for lunch. This afternoon's ride will be the final ride of the safari, taking in wonderful scenery and wildlife on the way back to Ride Kenya's stables. You will finish the safari by returning your horse safely to its stable back at the Ride Kenya base. Celebrate and recall the recent safari adventures over a sundowner at Ol Donyo Lodge. You will return to camp for hot showers, dinner and a well-earned rest. Day 11: Departure Enjoy breakfast in camp, followed by departure by road, to the Ol Donyo Lodge airstrip for the schedule flight to Nairobi departing at 08:15. |
