It was a very enjoyable holiday . The staff and other guests were very friendly, the food was brilliant and the accommodation was good. The trail guide and general instructor were excellent.

Vicki B.
Fantastic. Perfectly suited to both our needs. Mixed the timetable of both a complete beginner and an experienced rider perfectly. Great service, great riding, great time!

This destination offers a wide range of services from tuition for beginners, dressage, show jumping, trails and children’s camps, with staff and horses capable of delivering high standards. As well as this, the peaceful setting and relaxed atmosphere make it the ideal place to recharge your batteries whilst surrounding yourself with an endless supply of equine interaction. The horses are happy and well cared for, the finca feels like home, the red wine is a must…I would definitely return!

Sally Scott, Far and Ride, Read review
I have been on other riding holidays and this beat them all hands down. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will definitely be going back. (Favourite memory?) Quite a few - cantering through the pine forests and down the tracks; fantastic picnic lunches with swimming in the sea; lovely evenings on the terrace. The room was spotless and comfortable. Food was fresh, beautifully cooked and delicious. I liked the two horses I rode a lot. They were sure-footed and I felt safe with them. The guide was very patient and very friendly. He also gave a lot of good and useful advice on riding. I felt very well looked after and in safe hands.

It was an incredible experience from beginning to end. Amazing island, amazing horses and new friends!

Nansi S.
Super horses, well cared for, well behaved. Well planned out itinerary. very well organised, everything ran like clockwork, varied terrain and horses boxed out every day.

Lorraine K. (Sea & Mountain Trail)
Loved every minute of the holiday. After 30 years of riding, this was my first holiday involving horses and I am now hooked! *Favourite memories?) Too many to mention, but the long trails and seeing an island I know so well on horseback. The food and accommodation was excellent. (Our guide) Joe knew the island so well and cared for the horses at all times. I loved Avis (my horse) and the way in which the staff looked after the horses was second to none. Far and Ride were very good - Natalie provided all the information & was extremely helpful.

Ride Description

In the idyllic Levante hills of Mallorca lies this beautiful finca (farm) which is dedicated to the riding and breeding of spectacular Spanish horses. The finca offers tuition and trail rides and guests can also enjoy some memorable dressage lessons on magnificent stallions. This is a wonderful location in which to enjoy the peaceful Mallorcan countryside, a setting which has open fields, pine forests, sandy tracks and beautiful beaches. The finca is German owned and run.

Surrounded by natural beauty, the comfortable and rustic-style country house has all the necessary facilities for a relaxing and unforgettable holiday. The house is a 20 minute drive from two pretty natural beaches and just a 5 minute car journey from the town of Felanitx, where you will find a traditional Sunday market, considered one of the best in Mallorca. The restaurant serves Mediterranean food and meals are provided on the terrace when the summer sun is shining.

There are several programmes available here including a trail leading through the beautiful landscapes, a stay with daily riding routes, a dressage programme working with the Andalusian stallions (which can also include work with young horses), a show jumping week and a programme designed specifically for beginners. On returning to the finca after a satisfying day of riding, guests can relax on the pool terrace or enjoy a refreshing swim before a traditional Mallorcan dinner.

Riding directly on the beach is prohibited during the summer months. During these periods you will ride next to the beach, on the sand, but not up by the water. The ranch will be closed for the season on November 13th 2016 and will re open on the 12th March 2017.

**Please Note: As of July 2016 all guests will be required to pay a 1€ (EUR) per night Balearic tourist tax at the end of their stay. This is due to new laws set out by the Balearic government.

See Programmes.

Food & Accommodation

The farmhouse itself boasts 8 double bedrooms, each decorated in the traditional Mallorcan style and with their own bathroom. There is also a swimming pool with typical Mallorcan terrace and sunbeds to relax on.

All guest rooms have a bathroom, air conditioning, satellite TV, minibar, fan, safety deposit box, central heating and a telephone.

The restaurant here serves delicious Mediterranean food and during the summer months dinner is served outside on the terrace. Barbecue facilities are provided in the garden and a barbeque-style meal is served once per week. Dietary requirements such as vegetarians can be catered for and children's meals are available.

Activities

At the reception you can arrange to hire cars or bikes to tour the area. There are several typical Mallorquin markets nearby (most running at weekends and one on a Wednesday) and these are fascinating to visit.

Trips to Cabrera Island can also be arranged and there are several natural and untouched beaches to visit nearby. Guests can also enjoy an 18 hole golf course close to this destination.

There is a Spa available for guests which offers Turkish baths, saunas and a cyclone shower. Guests must provide 24 hours notice if they wish to use the spa facilities.

Tailor Made Programme

NEW for 2017 is this mixture of lessons and trails where you can decide exactly which riding options to take. Perhaps improve your dressage, work on your show-jumping or take more trail rides. Some afternoons are free for relaxing or you can pay for additional riding, spa treatments or massages.

Sunday:

Arrival at the farm. There is free time to visit the horses and walk around the farm. Dinner eaten at around 7.30pm with the riding group.

Monday:

In the morning there will be a one hour lesson, and in the afternoon a one hour trail ride. These are predominantly a chance for the instructors to assess your riding level and ensure they have chosen the right horses for you, but will also be your first opportunity to discover the beautiful landscape around Son Negre.

Tuesday:

Today will be a full day of trail riding - the route chosen will vary depending on the time of year, the wishes of the group and other local restrictions (for example, beach riding isn't possible during peak tourist seasons). An example trail ride may be:

Approximately 6.5 hours riding time today with a 35min transfer by car.

After having prepared the horses at the finca (farm) you will leave for the finca of 'Binifarda' which lies below the Santueri Castle and is made up of beautiful orange gardens. This is the fourth largest finca in Mallorca. Before reaching the castle you will pass by an archaeological study where historians hope to confirm the field as the birthplace of Christopher Columbus!

After enjoying some wonderful panoramic views you will ride up the mountains of Sant Salvador following trails which have been etched into the rock. There is a point where you will have to walk and lead your horse for approximately 25 minutes. At the top you will meet up with the support team and can tie the horses for a rest whilst you explore the monastery and its church. This is followed by a tasty brunch in the pinewoods.

Once you've finished eating it's time to tack the horses up again and begin your descent towards the Son Duri farm, a trail which will take you back through beautiful woodlands to Es Fanger and then S'Espinagar, the finishing point of the riding route. From here you will all be taken back to the finca for your last group dinner and overnight.

Wednesday:

Today will be another full day of trail riding - again, the route chosen will vary depending on the time of year, the wishes of the group and other local restrictions (for example, beach riding isn't possible during peak tourist seasons). An example trail ride may be:

Today's ride is approximately 5.5 hours in duration. You will leave the finca and head to Son Vaquer, riding in the direction of 'Es Rafalet'. This area comprises of several farms which cover the meadows of Mallorca and the wide, flat plains mean that you'll have the chance to canter and gallop towards the town of Villafranca. This is renowned for its farm produce such as melons, watermelons and garlic.

After you have passed by the town the riding route takes you on a climb up the pine-covered mountains, in the direction of Bonany Sanctuary which was built in 1606. Here you will meet the support vehicle for a snack.

The route back to Son Vaquer takes you through some different farms, riding and walking, and also by an old and abandoned clay mine. This is where the local artisans used to obtain the raw materials to make pottery.

Thursday:

Today is a free day with no riding. You may wish to explore the historic capital of Palma, seeing the sights and soaking in the culture. Alternatively, you may wish to enjoy a restful day on the gorgeous Es trenc beach - one of the most beautiful in southern Mallorca - seeing the clear blue sea and soaking in the glorious sunshine!

Friday and Saturday:

You can choose from the following options for your morning riding activity:

2 hour trail ride

1.5 hour jumping lesson

1 hour dressage lesson

You will need to make your choice when you book and it may not be possible to change this when you arrive.

The afternoons are free to relax by the pool or you could book extra riding lessons, a massage or spa activities (all are at extra cost, payable locally).

Sunday:

One last breakfast in the sunshine and then a sad farewell and departure to the airport.
