Horse Riding Holidays, Tunisia

Photo of a horse riding holiday, Tunisia.Situated on the northern Mediterranean coast of Africa, Tunisia is a relatively small but a climatically and geographically diverse country. A popular tourist destination, Tunisia is one of the easiest African countries to visit. Whether you are on horseback or not, are delights for all the family.

Eastern and northern Tunisia stretches 1300 km of mediterranean coast land. The sun drenched beaches of the eastern coastline is dotted with tourist destinations such as boutique hotels, stress-busting Thalassotherapy centres and opportunities to try out water sports such as sailing and surfing. Horseriding holidays along the eastern coasts of Tunisia brings you to more secluded destinations allowing long gallops along the sparkling Mediterranean beaches. The northern coasts hold quieter more secret beaches, away further away from the popular tourist destinations.

Meeting the friendly welcoming people of Tunisia adds depth and culture to your stay. There are a multitude of ethnic groups in this small country, but they are all held together with a mutual pride for it's "Tunisian identity". The original inhabitants were Berbers but many groups have since arrived from the surrounding Mediterranean basin with the strongest influence from Arabs who settled in the 7th century making, Tunisia their permanent home. Bedouin tribes who arrived in the 11th century further reinforced the Arabic language and Muslim religion. Riding holidays in Tunisia give the opportunity to experience the varied culture by riding through villages, lunches in traditional tavernas and opportunities to visit Berber markets and local tradesmen.

Tunisia's location as the northern most African country, and it's ideal climate has meant that many civilisations have passed through the country in the last 3000 years. Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Turks, Spanish and French have all left their mark in stone or mosaics on the walls of the ancient city of Carthage and the border of the Sahara desert. With eight UNESCO world heritage sights, there is no shortage of outstanding archeological sights to visit.

The Sahara desert, which sweeps across the southern region of the country can be accessed by adventurous riders on horseback. There are also many adventure tours such as camel rides, 4x4, quad biking, sand skiing. Star wars enthusiasts can visit the film location sight of Tatouine and Ounk Jemel.
