Ride Description

The Padok Premium Hotel & Stables is situated near Gokova Bay in Turkey. It offers a wide range of Instructional options. Whether you are a total beginner, intermediate rider or experienced rider, there is a programme to suit everyone.

The programmes include pure dressage or pure showjumping, a combination of both, or an option which includes trail rides as well as lessons. There are packages for total beginners and children which include tuition on basic horse care, grooming and tacking up as well.

Whether you want to learn to ride, learn to jump, improve your position or gain skills for the dressage or show jumping arena the instructors will devise a plan to suit you so that you get the most out of your stay. You can mix in some trail riding too and discover stunning views of the pine-clad mountains dropping down to the Aegean Sea.

The instructors all speak good English and are certified and approved by the Turkish Equestrian Federation. They are able to provide basic concepts in general riding, providing lessons in flatwork, dressage and show jumping. In dressage the instructors teach in preliminary, novice, elementary and medium level. In jumping, they can teach to 1.10m. Your host is an advanced level dressage rider and his brother is a 1.45m show jumper so your skills and style can be developed to a high level.

When you aren't riding there are beautiful beaches to discover and historical villages to explore.

This is the perfect combination for singles, families and groups of mixed abilities. You can all choose different programmes yet meet for lunch and dinners or to relax by the pool.

Food & Accommodation

The Padok Premium Hotel and stables is located in the pine forests of Gokova Bay and the outskirts of Sakar Mountain. The hotel has 32 rooms and 2 villas. The first floor of the hotel is reserved for the horses but the second floor has wonderful guest rooms offering a range of accommodation but all specially designed for your comfort. The rooms are decorated artistically with horse drawings. There are different rooms so everyone can be catered for. The standard rooms are tailored for two guests, the de luxe rooms offer extra space and some have bathtubs for complete relaxation. The suites offer a bedroom and a living area and can accommodate three to four guests. Then the Duplex Suites can offer room for five guests. For families there are two villas which can accommodate a family of six with three bedrooms. So accommodation is there for couples, groups and families.

The hotel has one restaurant and two bars. There is a lovely swimming pool which also has a bar facility.

There is an a la carte restaurant as well as a pool side bar which serves food as well as drinks. There are traditional Turkish dishes on offer as well as more familiar European meals. Included in your package is breakfast and dinner. Breakfast comprises local regional produce and home made dishes along with fresh fruit juices. Every morning it will be possible to have a fresh organic egg from the hotel's own henhouse. The Turkish cuisine is made with fresh seasonal ingredients using local olive oil. The chef prepares three course dinners (starter, main and dessert). As an alternative to Turkish food, they also serve a la carte meals again with seasonal vegetables and local ingredients. Drinks are not included with dinners but they offer the famous Turkish tea or coffee after a meal as a symbol of hospitality. Also included is the Happy Hour (4 pm-5.30pm) sweet and salty cookies, cakes and tea and coffee.

 

Activities

Guests can sunbathe or just enjoy time relaxing by the pool - the hotel has a beautiful garden with plenty of places to sit and relax or watch the horses. Walking is fabulous here and you can rent a bicycle to discover nearby villages and local bazaars.

The hotel is situated just 5km from Gokova Bay one of the top 3 kiteboarding destinations in the world - also just 5km from Akyaka city centre and the beach where you can go swimming. You can also take a boat trip or go fishing or canning.

Programme A: Lessons for Beginners/Novice riders



Learn to ride or improve upon the basics on this holiday which includes two lessons a day - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Lessons are either one-to-one or with one other rider, if the abilities of both riders are similar. As well as riding lessons you are also offered guidance on grooming, tacking up and general horse care so you feel confident handling and being around horses.

For novice riders the instructors will work on improving your riding skills and preparing you for the next level - perhaps taking your riding outside of the arena.

All instructors are qualified and  speak good English and they will discuss your requirements on day one to develop a personalised lesson plan dependent on your age, fitness and ability.

Lessons are 30-40 minutes duration and you will usually have ten lessons on a 6 night stay and five lessons on a three night stay - you do not ride on your arrival/departure days. You can book and pay for extra lessons locally if you wish.

Programme B: Showjumping or Flatwork Lessons



Improve your flatwork or showjumping skills with two lessons each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Lessons are either one-to-one (private) or in small groups if riders are of a similar level.

Jumping tuition is available for riders who have never jumped before, or for riders wishing to improve their technique. Beginner lessons start with basic pole work and work up to jumping small fences and easy courses. For riders with previous jumping experience, the instructors can build up height or technicality with larger courses different styles of fence. There are a selection of horses working at different levels to suit all abilities

Flatwork tuition enables riders to establish a good standard of riding and develop their accuracy within the paces. As well as improving general riding you can work on classical dressage and develop an independent seat and hands as well as introducing more advanced movements.

You need to choose either the flatwork or show jumping programme and cannot switch between the two. On the six night programme you will be able to swap one lesson for a trail ride, but cannot swap more than one. Ten lessons are included in the 6 night programme, and five lessons in the 3 night programme. Lessons are c. 45 minutes duration. Additional lessons can be booked and paid for locally if you wish.

At the beginning of your stay, your instructors will plan your lessons and devise a schedule which suits your age, fitness and ability.

Ability description: For the flatwork lessons all abilities can be accommodated, from novice to advanced. For show jumping lessons then you should be at least a novice rider who can walk, trot and canter.

Programme C: Combination Programme



Combine flatwork and showjumping lessons on a selection of well schooled horses in Turkey. You will learn new techniques to help you with schooling your own horse at home.

In the showjumping lessons you may start with pole-work and build up to jumping small fences, or improve your technique over small fences. Riders with previous experience may work on more using collecting and extending the horse between fences and improving their eye when judging a stride over larger fences.

In the flatwork lessons you may work on developing your ability to judge pace and balance as well as accuracy. The aim is that you will be able to complete a small dressage test or show jumping course by the time you return home.

You have one lesson in the morning and one in the afternoon. Lessons are c. 45 minutes and you can book additional lessons when you are there if you wish. 6 night programmes includes ten lessons whilst 3 night programmes include 5 lessons - you don't ride on your arrival/departure days. On the six night programme you will be able to swap one lesson for a trail ride if you wish.

There are horses to suit all abilities and your instructor will discuss your aims for the week and plan your riding to suit your requirements depending on your fitness and experience. Lessons are either private or in small groups if riders abilities are similar.

Ability description: All abilities can be catered for, but a basic grasp of walk, trot and canter is beneficial. Experienced riders will not be mixed with novice riders.

Programme D: Showjumping/Flatwork and Trail Combination



Choose from either flatwork or show jumping lessons plus the chance to explore the pine forests on trail rides.

On a six night programme you will receive 6-7 lessons plus 3 trail rides.

On a three night programme you will receive four lessons plus 1 trail ride.

Extra riding can be booked and paid for locally if you wish to add to this.

Lessons are c. 45 minutes and trail rides are 60 - 90 minutes duration.

In the indoor or outdoor arena you will work on your flatwork or showjumping skills in either private lessons or small groups if riders are of a similar level. Perhaps improve your position over fences and increase the height you are jumping, or work on lateral work and cadence in the flatwork lessons.

On the trail rides you venture through orange and lemon groves and through olive trees whilst exploring the mountains around Gokova Bay. Ride through pine forests and marvel at the spectacular views of the valley and mountains as they fall into the Aegean sea.

Programme E: Riding programme for Children



Children can learn to ride or improve their riding with these lessons - young children can have lead rein lessons whilst older and more experienced children can improve on their skills whilst riding in the arena.

Children who are just starting out will be offered educational games in the arena as well as riding lessons so that they learn how to handle their horse/pony as well as some basic horse care.

Children who already have riding experience may be offered pole work and small jumps or to improve their balance and ability with flat work lessons.

For young children the riding lessons are 15 - 30 minutes so they don't get bored. For older children the lessons are 30 minutes duration. There are two lessons a day - one in the morning and one in the afternoon, so plenty of time to head to the beach or pool as well!

Lessons are either private (one-to-one) or small groups if the children are similar abilities.

Children can ride ponies such as Shetland and Welsh, or Haflingers and small horses depending on their age, size and experience. The instructors will develop a lesson plan for the holiday depending on the childs wishes and riding level.
