Itinerary & Pricing

Day 1

Riding: 2 hours

After arriving at Esquina bus station you'll be transferred to the estancia in time for breakfast. Then you can join the Grasslands Ride, which takes you through the plains of the estancia. Meander through the vast and beautiful grasslands where the cattle and horses graze and enjoy the peacefulness of the landscape. Return to the estancia for lunch.

In the afternoon, take a nature walk to stretch your muscles after all your travelling and then enjoy a cheese and wine tasting before dinner.

Day 2

Riding: 3 - 5 hours

After breakfast, mount up for the Marshlands ride to venture further afield and discover the famous wetlands of the Corrientes. Return to the estancia for lunch and a siesta. In the afternoon, ride out to the point where the Corrientes and Parana rivers meet. Here there are islands which centuries ago were inhabited by aboriginal colonies who survived through hunting and fishing - sometimes ceramic artefacts can still be found. The flora and fauna here is spectacular too. Finish the ride with a sundowner at Joaquin River Lodge to watch the sunset before returning to the estancia for dinner.

Day 3

Riding: 4 hours

Today sees you heading out for a full day ride through the immense lagoons, where its possible to spot nutria, tortoises, caiman alligators and dozens of species of birds. Stop for an asado lunch in the open country and relax in this paradise for a few hours, before returning to the estancia at dusk.

Day 4

Riding: 4 hours

A day of culture beckons as you join the gauchos to watch, and if you wish, participate in their work. Perhaps you can help to drive the cattle towards the corral, or ride out into the fields searching for newborn calves to tag.

Day 5

Riding: 2 - 3 hours

An easier day today, with a morning ride to continue exploring the networks of lagoons and grasslands, whilst watching for the local wildlife. Then after lunch you can relax with a book, or perhaps opt for a massage or a polo lesson (payable locally).

Day 6

Riding: 4 hours

Head off in a different direction today to explore the scrubland areas where you weave through numerous bush and tree species. Surrounded by lagoons the scrublands are dense with vegetation - many areas choose to cut and burn the scrubland to make space for cultivation, but here on the estancia, the scrubland is left wild and untouched.

Day 7

Riding: 6 hours

A full day of riding today as you set off to find the capybaras. These native South American mammals are semiaquatic and live in groups of 10-20 on the edges on the lagoons. You may be able to hear them barking or spot them swimming. An asado lunch will be taken out in the wilds before returning to the estancia late afternoon.

Day 8

Day 1

Riding: 5 hours

After arriving early at Esquina bus station you'll be transferred to the estancia in time for breakfast. Today you will have the chance to try a number of different horses so that you find the perfect partner for the trail. After an introduction to the Argentine riding style you set off on a two hour ride, returning to the estancia for lunch. In the afternoon you have a second ride and you are encouraged to try as many horses as you like until you find the ones best suited to you.

Dinner and overnight at Don Joaquin.

Day 2

Riding: 7 hours

After breakfast you can enjoy a full day working with the cattle, perhaps herding the cows back towards the estancia. You'll be riding through landscapes of big pine forests and will stop for lunch at a remote cattle corral. After a siesta in the shade of the trees, follow the chime of the cow bell as the "godmother mare" leads the horses back home. Dinner and overnight at the estancia.

Day 3

Riding: 3 hours

A change of pace this morning as you follow the gauchos in their daily cattle ranch routine and assist wherever you can. Try your hand with the lasso before returning to the estancia for lunch and a relaxing afternoon around the swimming pool.

In the evening you can enjoy a wine tasting before dinner to sample some outstanding Argentine wines.

Day 4

Riding: 5 hours

Head out with the gauchos again to explore a new part of the estancia and cattle drive. The grassland in this area is "hedged" with acacia trees and native forests that are the perfect ecosystem for a great variety of birds and wildlife. Lunch is served back at the estancia.

In the afternoon you continue working with the cows and driving them back to the fields before eventually reaching River Lodge where you will relax and watch the sunset whilst enjoying sundowners.

Day 5

Riding: 7 hours

Today you start the trail, heading northeast across the open plains and enjoying long canters on the sandy tracks. You'll be accompanied by the ringing bell as the herd crosses the grasslands. Lunch will be an asado BBQ in the countryside where the gauchos will cook traditional empanadas and meat (vegetarian options available) over an open fire.

After lunch and a siesta using the sheepskin from your saddle as a pillow, you continue riding to reach a complete change in scenery. You'll have a 360 degree view of the wetlands where you may spot capybara, antelope, cayman and the greater rhea (if you're lucky). Ride on towards the broad open plains of the pampas and suddenly, out of nowhere, a stunning colonial estancia will appear, surrounded by beautiful gardens. Here you overnight.

Day 6

Riding: 5 hours

After a delicious breakfast the morning ride takes you along lagoons and scrublands to reach the Corriente riverbanks where you stop for lunch. This is a spectacular lunch location with a stunning view of the river and another delicious asado. Enjoy a well-deserved siesta in a hammock or chill out watching the river whilst your horses graze alongside.

In the afternoon, continue your ride by cantering along the sandy beaches which border the river and lead to a Mediterranean style estancia nestled on a riverbank. You'll be welcomed with afternoon tea and sundowners on the terrace overlooking the river before dinner.

Day 7

Riding: 7 hours

After breakfast head back to the main estancia with the herd of horses, rejoining the landscapes of pine forests. Stop for lunch at a remote cattle corral and siesta under the trees.

Once again, follow the chime of the cow bell back to the estancia in time for dinner and a late transfer to the bus station for your journey back to Buenos Aires.
