Day 1 - Saturday
Riding: No riding.
You will arrive on Saturday evening at the farmhouse. On your arrival, you can enjoy a welcome drink and will soon get to know your hosts and other guests. You can be assured of a fantastic three-course dinner accompanied by tasty local wines.
Day 2 - Sunday
Riding: 3 hours
The morning is yours if you wish to sleep late and take your time over breakfast. During this time you will unwind and take a look around or perhaps just sit in the sunshine admiring the view.
Late morning, there is a safety briefing and time to groom and saddle the horses before a demonstration in western riding. Following lunch, you will head out on a test-ride (around 3 hours) to enable you to get acquainted with the horse you are going to ride on the trail. This evening you will visit the new riding centre Bistro owned by Carmine and enjoy a drink followed by another delicious three-course dinner.
Day 3 - Monday
Riding: 5 hours
Enjoy breakfast and at around 10:00 am you will set off for your ride. You head south at a relaxed pace and reach a centuries‑old trail, the Tratturo Castel di Sangro–Lucera. Even today it is used by farmers to drive livestock to higher pastures with fresh grass during summer. You remain on this historic path, which leads us through the medieval village of Pescolanciano. The village lies at
the foot of Monte Totila (1,394 m) and, with its old castle and noble family, has an important connection to traditional horsemanship.
After leaving the tratturo behind, the ascent to Colle dell’Orso begins with an elevation of about 600 meters. The trail leads along small paths through beech forests that seem to have laid out a carpet of leaves just for us. In spring and autumn, thousands of small cyclamen bloom here.
In the early evening you will reach a simple mountain hut, which will be your accommodation for two nights. You first take care of the horses, then sit together comfortably with a cold beer or perhaps a glass of wine before enjoying dinner. You will sleep in shared sleeping quarters or on the terrace under the starry sky if the weather allows.
Day 4 - Tuesday
Riding: 6 - 7 hours
Today is entirely dedicated to the magical hilly landscape of Colle dell’Orso and the “cowboys.” During your ride across the plateau, divided by forests and rocks, you will enjoy viewpoints where the wind sweeps across the open terrain and and you can take in the panorama of the 2,000‑meter peaks of the Abruzzo and Matese mountains.
Even more impressive, however, is the view of the vast grazing areas of Colle dell’Orso, home to many cattle and semi‑wild horses. You will have the opportunity to observe attentive mares with their foals and ride very close to them. After this beautiful experience you will enjoy lunch.
After lunch the horses will need to be lead on foot for a short section, then you continue riding again, discovering parts of the mountain characterised by wild nature and lonely winding paths.
After riding you return to the mountain hut, where you can take a shower before lighting a campfire or a fire in the fireplace, because tonight’s dinner is a barbecue - and end the day together in a cozy atmosphere.
Day 5 - Wednesday
Riding: 7 hours
Waking up under the open sky, you will enjoy the beautiful nature of Colle dell’Orso one last time — also called the Magic Mountain by some. A narrow path leads you away from the mountain hut toward a herd of cattle, where you find a watering place, and shortly afterwards enjoy a 360‑degree panoramic view near the mountain’s summit.
Through mysterious forests where ivy covers rocks and trees, and across rolling meadows that lead you sometimes downhill and then steeply uphill again, you reach your picnic spot — a hollow that leads you to a forest protected by rock formations. This rock fortress has only 2 entrances, and entering the forest is a very special experience.
Afterwards you find yourself high on alpine meadows among sheep herds and where you can enjoy a refreshing gallop before descending toward your next destination (you will need to dismount and lead your horse for a short time).
The horses remain outside the town of Frosolone and you will be transferred to a small hotel in the old town near its fortress. Just around the corner is a rustic tavern where you will enjoy traditional Molise dishes and good wine.
Day 6 - Thursday
Riding: 6 hours
For breakfast you stroll toward the newer part of town through lively streets and are welcomed in a charming bakery with Italian coffee and croissant specialties.
Back in the saddle, you ride once more up toward Colle dell’Orso. In the garden of a church dating from 1704, you pause one last time on the mountain before riding eastward downhill past rugged rock faces and fragrant broom bushes.
In the late afternoon you reach a small riding centre where you take care of the horses before being transferred to a cozy hotel in Civitanova (5‑minute drive). Dinner is served in the inner courtyard under lanterns accompanied by Italian music.
Day 7 - Friday
Riding: 6 hours
Your final stage leads us down into a valley where the Trigno River has been dammed, forming a large lake. You follow the Trigno river to Pescolanciano and then ride across hills bordering the Collemeluccio Forest. This forest is protected under UNESCO’s “Man and Biosphere” (MAB) project. Two of the world’s 256 protected forests are located in Molise where you enjoy your final gallops. The last kilometeres take you through open heathland alternating with dense oak forests. Around 5:00 p.m. you return to the farm, unsaddle the horses one last time, and enjoy the farewell dinner.
Day 8 - Saturday
