Description

This welcoming country estate is situated in north-east Poland and has been beautifully restored to maintain its charm, whilst also offering a wonderful holiday setup for guests. It features a 16th century Palace, the 19th century Grange (with stables and restaurant) and a romantic park with over 200 hectares of forests, meadows, pastures and ponds. The estate is well-maintained and designed to immerse guests in nature and the area's history, whatever season of the year you come to visit.

The estate stud farm is home to almost fifty horses which are housed in the historic stables and across the estate lands. The number of horses means that the estate can run a riding school catering to different levels including beginner riders, those looking to improve their technique or guests who prefer exciting rides through the fields. You can take lessons in the indoor or outdoor menage, dependent on the weather, and lunge lessons are also a possibility. Carriage rides around the estate are a lovely way to explore and you can even take a lesson in driving mini horse carriages!

The horses primarily consist of warmblood types and Polish crosses whilst there are some fantastic Welsh B ponies for children. The estate's homebred horses have competed in championships both on a Polish and European level, as well as other parts of the world. The staff also organise many sporting, cultural and breed events and in 2003 they were awarded a gold medal for contribution to the development of noble horse breeds in Poland.

A unique feature of the estate are the magnificent landscapes which allow you to enjoy long walks without leaving the grounds. The 'Three Ponds Trail' starts on the edge of the magical forest with its ancient oak trees, then on through the waving grasslands until you reach the peaceful ponds and their connecting streams. From there you can come back across the picturesque pastures which the herds of horses roam. In summer you will find the company of cranes and other rare bird species whilst in winter there is certain to be some skittish deer.

The estate offers a fantastic choice of non-riding activities and sports making it an excellent location for families or mixed groups. Options include fishing, cycling, hiking, swimming (pond), a Russian Banya (sauna), massages, tennis, Nordic walking and more. There is also a mini farm with miniature horses, donkeys, goats, rabbits and poultry which both children and adults are sure to enjoy.

Holly and Natalie from Far and Ride visited the estate in October 2015 and loved every moment - please get in touch to know more!

They use many vegetables, fruits and herbs grown on site and serve locally produced cheese, cold meats and homemade preserves, ensuring quality and freshness. Each month the chef offers new seasonal dishes according to the fresh produce available at the time.

Lunches and dinners are chosen from a set menu. Coffee, tea, juices and water are served with and included with the meals, but alcohol is at your own cost. Beer or wine can be ordered and paid for at the time or you can pay for all extras at the end of your holiday.

The estate offers accommodation in 36 rooms and suites, each of which is different. The unique atmosphere of the historic buildings are emphasised by interiors which have been individually designed. Large bathrooms are well-matched to the character of the rooms. Pastel rooms in the Grange have a rustic atmosphere, highlighted by exposed beams, heavy wooden doors and stylish bay windows and shutters. Some rooms are available directly from the garden. The Palace interiors were inspired by the court and its traditions. The rooms are decorated with a collection of renovated antique furniture complemented by newer pieces which have been designed to match.

The two-storey inn with clock tower is located in the historic granary offers a lovely place to relax. It features exposed rafters under a high wooden ceiling, a large fireplace and an original bread stove.

Testimonials

Alexia D., Oct. 17, 2023

Very nice location, food, horses. Horses were all great and well cared for. It was good - just the lessons that were in English and polish at the same time I found a bit difficult. But they were flexible for private lessons and also great about wishes for horses. There was always someone there to help you.

Maria L., March 22, 2018

My mini-holiday at Galiny was wonderful. Great riding instructors, skilled horses, plenty of classes, beautiful surroundings and delicious meals. It’s great value for money, and I can definitely recommend this jumping stable, for riders at all levels. I haven’t been riding for more than 10 years, and never did much jumping, yet I was still allowed to try jumping and managed to jump a full course around 80 cm in height, and the guidance and the feedback on how to jump was great. It was a huge experience and gave me a great motivation for coming back to riding and improving my level. I could borrow a helmet without problems, I tried 4 different horses and found a favourite. The stable is very cosy, and the balance between being allowed tacking up the horse yourself and getting help with finding the equipment, guidance on how they prefer it to be done etc is good. Monica and Eva were very good, they had a good balance between giving good advice and feedback, and also positive and encouraging comments, a good understanding of were my level was.

Chris G. (Flexible Programme), Oct. 17, 2017

Very well organised. Friendly, professional staff. Loved being able to see the foals, walk around the grounds, cycle, etc. (Accommodation?) Excellent standard. Loved the bedroom. Food was both tasty and beautifully presented. (Horses?) Probably the fittest best-schooled horses I have ever ridden on a riding holiday. I rode 5 in all over 3 days and loved the variety. Tack & equipment put mine to shame! (Guides?) Monika & Ewa. Competent, friendly, professional with a sense of humour. I learnt loads.

Colleen H. (Advanced Rider Trail), Oct. 7, 2017

I loved this ride! It was exactly as described. Lots of time in the saddle. good pace - trotting and cantering. This was my 6th ride of this kind and ranks at the top of my list. I especially found the terrain conducive to long canters. The horses were excellent. I rode the same horse each day but was offered a choice - in hindsight, I should have tried others but very happy with the one I had. Melanie and Patricia (guides) very friendly and very professional. Excellent.

Jessica H. (Flexible Programme), Oct. 13, 2016

Amazing! We had such a brilliant time. Best hotel room I've ever had. Food was fantastic. Horses were all in lovely condition and tack was good, obviously well maintained. Eva (our instructor) was fabulous! She helped my sister improve so much and got rid of my bad habits I'd picked up from not having a lesson for 6+ years! (Favourite memory?) All the beautiful scenery around the estate and the riding sessions we had - I jumped bigger than I have for years. Oh! And falling asleep in the sun in a deck chair by the pond! Fishing at sunset and getting a snog from the Friesian and Luschek the dog.

Satine H., Oct. 8, 2015

I was very happy with the accommodation. The food quality was very healthy and delicious. I was (also) very happy with my horse, he was gentle and clever, which is very important for a beginner rider. (Favourite memory?) The stunning view of the place and the friendly staff on the programme.

Itinerary & Pricing

Day 1 - Sunday

Riding: 1 - 1 hours

Arrival at the hotel where a Warmian style lunch or dinner will be waiting for you. You will have a chance to get to know the staff who will be taking care of you during your stay and you can take a look around the estate. If you arrive in time for lunch then you will spend the afternoon visiting the stables and having one hour of introductory riding in the menage to prepare you for the rides to come - this will help the riding instructors to find you the perfect horse. If you arrive later, only in time for dinner, then your introductory ride will be moved to the next morning. In this case you will receive some riding and a lunch on your departure day to ensure that you still have plenty of hours.

Days 2 to 6 - Monday - Friday

Riding: 4 - 5 hours

Each day begins with a delicious buffet breakfast before you head to the stables for your trail rides. Every day you will ride to different points of interest on a journey of approximately 30km, the whole trip taking around six hours including breaks. Lunch will be served in each different location and then you will return to the estate for dinner and overnight each day. The places you will ride to are as follows:

Sulowo Village: This is quite an intense ride, following old hunters' paths through the forests and meadows surrounding the estate. After approximately three hours of riding and sightseeing, you will reach the old village of Sulowo where you will stop for lunch in a restaurant. There will be time to rest up a bit before mounting your horse and heading back to the estate.

Sanctuary of Stoczek Klasztorny: You will prepare the horses for today's ride, a trail including all paces and plenty of active riding through Warmia's countryside. You will head to Stoczek Klasztorny, a 17th-century sanctuary in the Baroque style. During the ride, you will see many small churches located on the roadside which is very characteristic of the Warmia region. Today's lunch will be prepared by monks at the monastery and you will be able to relax in the monastery gardens before making your way back to the stables.

Krawczyki: Today's beautiful ride leads you to the village of Krawczyki which belonged to the Denhoff family from the 16th - 20th century. Lunch will be served in one of the local guest farms.

Wegoryty Village: After a hearty breakfast you will saddle your horses for a ride to the small village of Wegoryty.  Lunch will be served on a local farm which is famed for its delicious vegetable pates.

Bartniki Village: Today you will ride to Bartniki village. On the way, it is worth paying attention to small churches located at the side of the roads, which are a very characteristic element of Warmia’s landscape. You will have a picnic in a reserve called "Bartniki overflow area" which is a man-made wetland created for the protection of migratory wetland birds. After a short break, you will ride back to Galiny via a different route, ending what is hopefully an unforgettable week.

Day 7 - Saturday

Riding: 1 - 2 hours

Today is sadly your day of departure. If you enjoyed lunch and riding on your arrival day, then you are free to depart after a final breakfast. If you only arrived in time for dinner on arrival day, then you are invited to use up your few hours of riding tuition and a lunch before you leave. After saying farewell to new friends, both four-legged and two-legged, it will be time to head back to the airport, hopefully with great memories from your riding holiday in Poland.

Days 1 to 7

Riding: 1 - 3 hours

This flexible programme provides each guest with twelve riding sessions to use in whatever way they prefer. There is no need to stick to a specific schedule and you can organise the time/format of your rides with the instructor, depending on your own skills and needs.

The twelve sessions can be used for flatwork lessons, lunge lessons, jumping lessons (up to 60cm), hacking on the estate (maximum two hours at a time) or even a lesson in how to drive horse carriages!

Lessons are typically 1 hour in duration and will be shared with other riders of a similar level (there can be up to 7 riders in flatwork lessons and up to 5 in jumping lessons). However, please note that one carriage driving lesson (1-hour duration) is equal to two standard riding sessions.

A limited number of jumping lessons are possible in the normal flexible programme - if staying for a weekend (3 nights) then up to 2 jumping lessons are possible and if staying for a week (6 nights) then up to 4 jumping lessons are possible (jumps no higher than 60 cm). If you wish to jump then please let us know in advance so that the right horses can be reserved for you.

Days 1 to 7

Riding: 1 - 3 hours

The winter riding programme provides each guest with the opportunity to take quality riding tuition either in the indoor or outdoor schools (weather dependent), whilst also enjoying the wonders of Poland in winter. The number of riding sessions included will depend on the programme you choose;

On the flexible programme, you will have 12 riding sessions during a week (6 nights) and a weekend (3 nights) will include 6 riding sessions instead. On either of the jumping programmes, you will have 10 sessions during a week (6 nights) and 5 riding sessions on a weekend (3 nights) stay.

The large indoor riding school is warm and comfortable, perfect for practising your skill on the flat and over some fences too, even when the weather is really cold. You can choose if you would prefer to concentrate on pure flatwork, to jump instead, or have a combination of the two!

Lessons are typically 1 hour in duration and will be shared with other riders of a similar level (can be up to 7 riders in flatwork lessons and up to 5 in jumping lessons).

Because of the often unpredictable weather conditions in Poland between October and April, it's not always possible to offer trail riding on the estate. However, this may be offered still in October and late March depending on weather conditions at the time.

Poland enjoys a lot of snow in the wintertime and it's a lovely idea to ask the staff at reception for a map of the estate and enjoy some winter walks on the private grounds. You can then return to enjoy a warm mug of tea, coffee or hot chocolate snuggled up by the fire - winter bliss!
