Description

These riding holidays are set in the beautiful French area of Armagnac. Your host, Evelien, is a trained horse riding guide who speaks fluent Dutch, French and excellent English. She allows competent riders the opportunity to explore the Armagnac countryside unguided allowing you freedom to ride at your own pace. Her stables of well-trained horses offer the ideal means by which to explore the stunning countryside. You will be based from the beautiful old Chateau and from here you can explore the glorious countryside and return to the comforts of your magnificent "chambre" each night.

The Armagnac region is primarily known for its production of the oldest French brandy but it is also an area rich in historical significance and charming countryside. The 'Counts of Armagnac' were politically very strong during the 14th and 15th centuries, the height of the region's power, and it was during this time that the Armagnac brandy became a commercialised product, sold throughout the country. As part of Gascony the region enjoys a wonderful climate and is predominantly agricultural with fields of crops, rolling hills and a web of rivers. The historical bastide towns and villages which dot the area take you back to times gone by and riders will see some fascinating architecture during their holiday.

Horses & Riding

Tack

Most of the saddles used are easy-care synthetic Wintec or Trekking saddles, which are lightweight and sturdy. The horses are predominantly ridden in simple snaffle bridles with rope halters left on for ease of tethering when you stop.

Horses

The horses used on this ride all belong to host Evelien and are a mix of breeds, including some appaloosa, French crosses and standardbreds. They are all easy going and have calm personalities, ideally suited to trail riding.

Château Ride: Whilst staying at the château you will be on a half board basis (breakfast and dinner). Meals are made with fresh, regional produce and are primarily in the French style but with influences from across the world. Wines are not included in the cost but we recommend that you try some of delicious Gascony wines available, as well as the best Armagnac of course!

The château is happy to provide you with picnic lunches if you'd like to ride all day. These cost around €10 per person.

Accommodation

During the Château Ride, guests are accommodated in this welcoming and impressive château which offers twenty charming rooms, all en suite. The en suites are equipped with bath or shower and toilet and every bedroom has a TV and phone. Château guests are also welcome to use the swimming pool (during summer), the tennis courts, petanque piste and mini golf course. There is also a billiards room and lounge to be used at guests' leisure.

The surroundings are peaceful and the area has a fantastic climate. This is a taste of the real France!

Testimonials

Niall & Sarah, Nov. 6, 2019

Brilliant! The chateau we stayed in was quiet and comfortable and the food delicious. Our hosts went out of their way to accommodate us. We could see our horses grazing in the paddocks form the window and we could return from a great day out riding for a relaxing swim in the pool, a cool drink and a delicious supper!

Brilliant! The Chateau we stayed in was quiet and comfortable and the food delicious. We could see our horses grazing in the paddocks from the windows and we could return from a great day our riding for a relaxing swim in the pool, a cool drink and a delicious supper. Eveline could not have been more helpful and we felt we had been transported to another life in beautiful countryside. Favourite memory was cantering the horses along disused railway lines fringed by greenery by lakes and seeing them relaxing in their paddocks at 'our chateau' after a hot day out riding in the forest.
