Description

The Zanzibar Horse Club started was founded in 2018 with 3 beautiful rescue ponies of Arabian/Somali mix called Lu Lu, Crumble and Bob. All 3 of the ponies spent 6 months training, eating and relaxing before welcoming guests the clubs first guests. Since then, the horses have proven to be popular with guests, settled in and become a central part of the Zanzibar Horse Club family.

Since then the club has gone from strength to strength and now has a total of 40 horses and 16 staff. The horses are located at 3 different stables in the area, Nungwi, Kendwa and the main 10-acre facility in Kidoti village. This is where all the training of young and new horses takes place as well as the breeding programme is stables and where the horses all come to rest.

The stables are open most of the year, except for the months of April and May when the horses are moved to the Kidoti ranch to rest and graze in the paddocks. During these 2 months the horses are given all their annual vaccinations.
There are around 8 acres of paddocks, a lunging ring and an amazing outdoor 60m x 30m arena. All the horses spend approx. 6 months at Kidoti before being used in the Kendwa and Nungwi stables.

All of the beach rides take place on the Kendwa and Nungwi beaches which are consistently voted amongst the most beautiful beaches in the world and the amazing Kidoti sunset ride takes in the breathtaking sunset.

The main stables & training grounds at Kidoti are located 50 metres off the main Nungwi road approx. 100 metres from Kidoti school. Our hosts are actively involved in animal welfare on the island, and work with the islands oldest and biggest animal charity Zaaso. 10% of all their profits are donated to Zaaso monthly – a donation-based horse and donkey sanctuary who also provide general animal clinic services.

Other Activities

Due to its natural location and history, Zanzibar has a lot more to experience than just its beautiful beaches. The island has a rich and varied history which has seen occupation from the Portuguese, the sultanate of Oman and the British at various times over the last 500 years. these influences have left a myriad architectural styles and cultural influences which culminated in the capital, stone town, being made a world heritage site by unesco in 2000.

For diving, fishing and water sports enthusiasts there is a fully equipped dive centre on-site with the world-famous Mnemba atol and deep sea fishing grounds just a stone’s throw away. If you wish to learn to dive while on Zanzibar, then your hosts can arrange that with a local dive school. Kite surfing, sailing, kayaking and deep sea fishing can also be arranged.
