This wonderful guest ranch is located in the northwest corner of Arizona, just 2.5 hours drive from Las Vegas and 3.5 hours drive from Grand Canyon village, within the Mohave desert. Your hosts JP and Tricia McCormick, together with their sons Tristan and Cayden, will do everything they can to make sure all who stay at the ranch have the most memorable western experience possible. Blending perfectly the old and new, the ranch owners aim to introduce their guests to the real west in a fun and enjoyable environment! The overnight stay at this ranch includes all meals which are always home-cooked, daily horseback riding as well as a host of other ranch based activities.

The horseback riding programme can be tailored to include slow and scenic rides, more challenging mountain rides and advanced trotting and loping rides in the sandy wash of the desert. There are also opportunities to take part in longer lunch rides (seasonally), “cactus” rides and a host of other speciality rides. All guests will need to undergo a first assessment ride (in walk only) on the afternoon of their arrival to see how they manage with the ranch horses and to get an idea of their comfort level in the saddle. Following this, you will be able to plan and organise your preferred riding stay together with the ranch wranglers.

The ranch offers an “old west experience” with a modern, yet intimate setting which is just perfect for a family-oriented holiday. With wonderful, safe horses, children aged 7 years and older will be allowed to ride on the trails, with their parents, own horse and under their own guidance. Each ride is led by a knowledgeable and friendly wrangler, who will help to make your experience fun and enjoyable.

The ranch itself is set up like a small-scale old western town. When leaving your room you will feel like you have stepped back in time as you walk about the property. Bordering over 360,000 acres of pristine untouched Federal land that is managed by the Bureau of Land Management, riding enables guests to go on the trails to explore the miles of unspoiled scenery, with not a single fence in sight. There are also numerous activities to try out when not riding, so there really is something for everyone here.

At this ranch there is also a disabled riding programme - everyone has the opportunity to ride a horse. The ranch provides a special mounting/dismounting ramp, sidewalks and a gentle well-trained horse to make sure the horseback ride is safe and enjoyable. Once you are comfortable in the saddle you can leave the arena and hit the trails with your family and friends for a truly memorable riding experience.

Food & Accommodation

Food is plentiful, homemade and always delicious. You will be served three mouth-watering meals each day including sumptuous desserts as well as homemade bread, cookies and snacks. Fruit punch, lemonade, iced tea, coffee, orange juice, milk and water are served with each meal. There is also a fine selection of wines and beer to complement your dinner.

Most meals are served buffet style with some sit-down meals. Occasionally you will dine outside, however, this will depend on the weather - the desert gets cold at night in winter!

In the main Lodge, there is also popcorn upon request and a full bar. Other snacks, beer and beverages are available to purchase in the lodge as well.

Special dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.

The ranch is laid out like a small Western town. There is a main Frontier lodge with a central courtyard separating the two main guest buildings, as well as a further two family suites and the Pioneer wagon themed accommodation. In early 2018, the guest accommodation was renovated and upgraded, enhancing every visitor's enjoyment of their time at the ranch.

The Frontier Lodge is the main focus of the dude ranch and is complete with plenty of western flare. Within the lodge, a comfortable sitting area offers cosy sofas and chairs, for guests to use, which surround a huge central fireplace. This area gives the lodge a warm homely feel and offers the perfect place to relax and share your day with the other guests.

The Hualapai dining room is also located in the main lodge and is complete with south-western decor. This is where guests and staff can enjoy dining together for breakfast, lunch and dinner - except of course when dinner is cooked outside on the grill! A beautiful courtyard separates the dining room from the Frontier Lodge and is perfect for outdoor dining when the weather is just right, as well as offering a great backdrop for evening entertainments.

The guestroom buildings, which feature ten bedrooms between them, face the beautiful Hualapai mountains and are perfect for viewing the spectacular sunsets this region is known for. The rooms come in configurations of a single king-sized bed, for couples or those travelling alone, ones with a queen bed and further futon perfect for families, or rooms with 2 double beds, which can accommodate up to 4 guests easily. The larger Family suites feature 2 bedrooms with queen and double beds and can accommodate between 4 and 8 guests. They are also perfectly situated for viewing the mountains and evening sunsets. All guest rooms are supplied with environmentally friendly soaps, shampoos, lotions and amenities. All rooms have hair dryers, some with mini refrigerators and are extra roomy to accommodate wheelchair using guests. Many rooms are adjoining and all have air conditioning. Each guest room is over-sized and equipped with handicapped accessible bathroom.

In addition to all of this, there is a centrally located swimming pool and hot tub for guests to use, as well as a variety of game options such as volleyball, billiards and horseshoes.

Ranch Stay Standard accommodation.

Other Activities

For those who do not wish to ride - at least, not all the time - there are a number of other activities available on the ranch. You might like to try a chuck wagon ride, try some archery or shooting, or take one of the ranch's fat tyre mountain bikes for a spin in the desert. You can also rent one of the ranch's quad bikes for a guided ride in the desert mountains. Ride the trails and explore the wilderness. Check out “Shot Up Well” a favourite target zone for the military during WWII. You might even find some old shells laying around. Drive by old Gold mines that made this valley popular back in the day or just enjoy the stunning scenery as you ride out in the badlands. Alternatively, guests are free to simply relax, make use of the swimming pool, hot tub, horseshoe pit, pool table and basketball hoop.

The ranch is also located in a pristine untouched wilderness with no light pollution. Here is your chance to be in one of the few places on earth where you can actually see the milky way. Head out into the night to do some star gazing and amaze yourself with an incredible sky.

The ranch is located just off Historic Route 66! This means there are several Route 66 attractions close to the ranch such as Kingman, AZ (45 minutes), the famous ghost town of Oatman (1 hour), and Chloride (1 hour), along with the world-famous Grand Canyon south rim (3.5 hours)! They are also very close to Las Vegas (2.5 hours), and beautiful Sedona (3 hours).

There are two golf courses in Kingman and two golf courses in Lake Havasu, and two "high end" courses in Laughlin. All of the courses are within 45-75 minutes away from the ranch. As you can see, the ranch is centrally located with all kinds of extra things to do either before, during, or after your stay at the ranch.

There is also a botanical garden and sustainable living resource centre located about 20 minutes from the ranch called Destination Forever Ranch which is part of the Santa Fe Ranch in Yucca, Arizona.

Las Vegas McCarran airport is 2.5 hours drive from the ranch and Phoenix is 3.5 - 4 hours away. Most guests choose to fly to Las Vegas, rent a car and then drive to the ranch from here.

Heather C., Nov. 2, 2017

We had a fantastic holiday. From the moment we arrived, we started to relax and very quickly slipped into the ranch's routines and rhythm. The accommodation was excellent - clean and on theme! (Favourite memory?) It has to be loping (cantering) in the desert washes. As a disabled rider that was a real achievement and I can't thank the wrangler (Wez) enough for teaching me; he was so encouraging.

Brian P., Oct. 13, 2015

I have to say I was a bit unsure if I would like the ranch, the horses and being out in the middle of nowhere etc but I have to say all my worries where just washed away in the first day. Apart from me getting lost (a typical man thing we never look at the instruction), everything was wonderful.
Randy produced a perfect meal every time, although I missed the Mexican Dinner, you can't win them all. George was a terrific guide he looked after me and I know he has his funny old ways but I liked him right from the start and underneath it all he has a heart of gold.

Itinerary & Pricing

Day 1 - Arrival

Riding: 2 hours

You will be able to check-in from 2 pm (early check-in can be accommodated as well - please let us know) before heading to the corral to be matched with your horse and enjoy a slow, scenic walking ride in the desert to let you get acclimated to your horse, surroundings and saddle. Dinner will be served back at the ranch.

Day 2

Riding: 4 hours

Today you will take two rides, each lasting approx. 2 hours, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. These can be a combination of slow scenic walk rides and faster trotting stretches if you feel up to it.

Day 3

Riding: 4 hours

Following breakfast this morning, you will again be able to enjoy two rides today and will also start to incorporate some loping into the trails as well (if you feel comfortable doing so). You will need to have taken part in at least 3 rides before being able to go on the faster loping trails.

It's a great to have the freedom and thrill of faster riding along the desert trails and to feel the wind rushing past your face.

Day 4

Riding: 3 - 5 hours

Today you may like to take a 4-5 hour ride into the mountains which surround the ranch. You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the desert wash before heading up to the top of Buck mountain to enjoy the incredible views from up there. Due to the Arizona heat in July and August, this ride may be replaced by an early morning breakfast ride to make the most of the cooler time of the day (ride lasting approx. 3 hours).

Day 5

Riding: 3 hours

Today you might want to take a 3-hour ride through the cactus forests of the desert wash. Some of the plants here are over 100 years old and the scenery will be reminiscent of many a Hollywood western. There is some challenging terrain to negotiate in the foothills of the mountains.

Day 6

Riding: 5 hours

Today you might choose to take part in a ride to see the old gold mines. Heading into the mountains and exploring some of the long-lost gold mines, you will be able to see what the pioneers had to endure to make a living searching for gold. This ride last approx. 5 hours and you will have a picnic lunch at the gold mines.

Day 7

Riding: 1 - 4 hours

You may wish to relax today and take an easy ride

Please note that anyone over the weight of 230 lbs will not be allowed to ride outside of the arena.

Children aged 6 and under may be "ponied" on trails meaning that the wranglers will take the child on a lead rein which is attached to their horse. This is up to the discretion of the wrangler and in this case, the rides are limited to walking only.

Children aged 7 and over are able to join the adult trails on their own horse, provided they are proficiently able to control the speed and direction of their own horse.

Lessons, for those who wish to have these, can also be organised at a small additional cost. Please let us know at the time of booking if you would like to take advantage of this so that we can notify the ranch team and ensure the correct instructor/wrangler for your chosen lesson level if available.
